Ms. Thompson's Horticulture class has been working hard to establish their new vegetable grow towers! Purchased with a Career and Technical Education grant, the two towers are producing tons of lettuce, swiss chard and kale. Originally, the towers were intended to provide Mrs. Ellison's foods classes with some extra veggies, but they have been so successful, they decided to share with the school cafeteria and add some pizazz to our salad bar.
Ms. Thompson and Mrs. Ellison attended an Illinois Farm to School boot camp a few weeks back and have been working together to get students more involved in the growing, cooking and preserving of their own foods. Their ultimate goal is to get a greenhouse and produce many more items, such as peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, herbs, broccoli, cauliflower and more! Career and Technical Education classes are intended to prepare students for both adult life after high school and their career paths.
