January 11, 2021 Dear CUSD #20 Families and Staff: As the second semester resumes, it is apparent that COVID-19 continues to cause concern for our District. Unfortunately, CUSD #20 has had six positive COVID-19 tests amongst the staff and another four confirmed cases with our students. These individuals have been quarantined along with other staff and students that were determined to be in close contact with a positive case. These cases are not limited to one setting. All three of our schools have individuals that have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and quarantined since school resumed on January 5th. At this time, the Lawrence County Health Department and CUSD #20 school nurses have been in contact with all individuals affected by this most recent outbreak of positive cases. We ask that all parents and guardians monitor their child(ren) for symptoms. The health and safety of our students and staff is our highest priority, and we recognize the uncertainty and concern regarding the evolving COVID-19 pandemic. We are following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as the state and local health departments that outline best practices and procedures in order to protect everyone’s health. As always, individuals should closely monitor their health. If symptoms develop, please stay home and contact your healthcare provider to determine if testing is needed. Anyone who develops severe symptoms should seek medical care immediately. If your child has had close contact with a known case of COVID-19, keep your child at home and notify your primary healthcare provider, school, daycare, and local health department. We are committed to providing our students and our staff with a safe and healthy learning environment. As always, thank you for your ongoing cooperation and understanding regarding our COVID-19 prevention policies and procedures as we remain steadfast in our commitment to protect your children and family as well as our staff and their families. Sincerely, Doug Daugherty CUSD #20 Superintendent

Dear CUSD #20 Families and Staff, At the monthly school board meeting on Wednesday, November 18th, the decision was made for all CUSD #20 students to remain in a remote learning only setting thru Friday, December 18, 2020. While this wasn’t an easy decision, we feel it is what is best for the students, staff, and community at this time. At this time, the plan is to return to school on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. However, at the December board meeting, the Board of Education will evaluate the Covid situation to decide whether to extend the remote learning only setting or return to school. While everyone would rather see the students in the classroom and participating in extracurricular activities, this decision was brought about by the increased number of Covid-19 cases in the community as well as the school district. Lawrence County Health Department Director, Amy Marley, attended the meeting and informed the board of the number of current cases in the county as well as predicted increases in cases over the next few weeks. The Lawrence County Health Department, the CUSD #20 Board of Education, and the CUSD #20 administration are asking that everyone please continue to do their part to control this virus. Remember to wash your hands, wear your mask, maintain social distancing, and stay home whenever possible. Once the virus numbers decrease, the staff and students of CUSD #20 can resume their normal schooling methods. In addition, CUSD #20 encourages parents to continue to monitor their children’s schoolwork as we continue with remote learning. Be sure to watch for more news and information in the next few weeks as we continue to combat this unprecedented virus. The district will continue serving meals to students on days that school is in session through the end of December. As always, if you have any questions or concerns you may contact your child’s teacher, their school or reach us at the email help@cusd20.net. Remember, that working together is what we all need to do during these trying times. Sincerely, Doug Daugherty Superintendent, CUSD #20
